Recognition for Our Culture of People Protecting People

  • Our safety initiatives were recognised from coast to coast!

Scentre Group’s continued focus on a safety culture gained formal recognition during the year when the redevelopment project at Westfield Whitford City obtained the WorkSafe Plan Gold Achievement for Best Occupational Safety and Health Management System.

Robert Stansfield, Risk Management Coordinator at Whitford City said: “To achieve the WorkSafe Plan award our Safety and Health Management Plan was independently audited by a WorkSafe assessor and 40 team members were randomly interviewed on site about our commitment and culture. The feedback was extremely positive, which is really important as our team brings people protecting people to life.

"I’m proud we’ve been able to set the bar so high in WA when it comes to people protecting people and our health and wellbeing program.”

“It’s also brilliant to receive the Gold Achievement award, especially as Whitford City is our first project in Western Australia in a long time, and this has created a great impression and legacy. I’m proud we’ve been able to set the bar so high in WA when it comes to our people protecting people and our health and
    wellbeing program.”

On the opposite side of the country the Queensland State Government published a health and wellbeing case study on their website about the successful health, wellbeing and safety initiatives that were put into place during the Westfield North Lakes redevelopment project.

Our Design and Construction General Manager Darren Ellis said, “Whitford City’s award and Queensland Government WorkSafe’s case study about North Lakes is a great achievement. The D&C team is working really hard to support and create a positive culture, so it’s rewarding to gain recognition for it and feedback from our team that they’re engaged and happy.

“During the year we hosted a national work, health and safety alignment workshop with senior management from across the business to ensure everyone understands what we’re doing in this space, what our customer experience team is embarking on, and how we can all be more effective safety leaders. This has aligned our commitments to, and expectations of, each Scentre Group business unit to support and promote people protecting people. It’s an outstanding evolution of our safety culture and one that is welcomed by everyone across our business.”
